Register Sunday for Co-Op

August 6, 2010

If you are interested in joining other parents provide some basic classes for your child:

You may register your child/children this Sunday for the upcoming co-op classes to be held at Community Bible Church.   These classes are open to any family no matter their school choice.  Those of us who will be teaching are looking forward to working with your children and seeing each of them progress in their studies this next school year.
All registration will be done in the atrium after the 11:00 service on Sundays and also just before and after the services on Weds. evenings.  We will accept registrations up until classes begin on Sept. 1st.  The guidelines and parent and student pledges will also be available.  The fee for participating in the co-op is $20 per family.  Each student will be responsible for bringing the needed supplies each teacher requests. If you have questions about the American Lit. class you may e-mail Stephanie Fowler at msfowler@embarqmail.com, if questions about the science class Melissa Carter at renikcarter@yahoo.com, Debi Gant at cdsgant@embarqmail.com can answer questions about the Us Gov/Economics class and Evelyn Owens at cbcevelyn@gmail.com can answer questions about the writing class.

Co-Op open to all children!

August 3, 2010

From Evelyn Owens:

Please know that we welcome any student no matter what school choice their parents have made for their child’s education. If you do not attend Community Bible Church we will make arrangements for you to sign up in the front office after the 1st of August.

Beginning Sept. Wed. Sept. 1st we will offer some classes for our school-age children. Any family is welcome to participate as long as they are comfortable with the guidelines we will follow. Sunday we will have the guidelines available in the atrium along with registrations for anyone interested. There will be classes for younger children that will be present with their siblings. The cost for a family is a one time reg. fee of $20.

This co-op will require that one parent remain with the child/children and assist in some way for the entirety of the classes. It will not be a drop-off ministry. Classes will be held on the alternate Wed. of our Woman’s Life meetings. In other words, we will meet on the 1st, 3rd and if a 5th Wed. of every month at 3:00. Your child will be able to participate in two classes. We also have a volunteer who is willing to organize a “potluck” dinner for any wishing to join. This has been planned so those who are participating can remain on campus, eat and then attend the Wed. evening service/children’s choirs.

Class that are planned so far: 3-4pm Science Apologetics for Elem. Children taught by Melissa Carter

3-4pm High School American Literature for 8th-12th grades taught by Stephanie Fowler

You may view her booklist at this link: http://thenewprettywilderness.blogspot.com/

This class will meet at 11:00 at the KidsLife dates as well. You must register and attend on the alternate Weds. to attend this class at KidsLife as well. So that means these students will meet once a week for class as it will be taught in such a way that your student can receive high school credit for his/her American Lit. requirement.

4-5pm Institute for Excellence in Writing Class led by Evelyn Owens for grades 3-7

DVD series will be used and students will have to purchase their own notebooks

The level is called Student Writing Intensive Group A

You can check this out at the website for the institute.

After viewing DVD we will break up into smaller age ranges.

5-6pm High School American Government/Economics taught by Debi Gant

Books need to be purchased by student: Whatever Happened to Penny Candy & Whatever Happened to Justice

This class will also meet every Wed. because student will receive high school credit for these classes.

If you have a desire to teach a class we will make that consideration. Please contact Evelyn Owens if you wish to be considered as a teacher/instructor for a class.
